A character identity, not a fixed class
The developer describes character identity as the result of choices across connected systems, rather than a predefined class selection. That is why this page explains the building blocks instead of listing Warrior, Mage or Rogue as selectable classes.
An archetype mentioned in promotional copy is an example of a playstyle. It does not establish a separate class with a locked skill list, starting attributes or exclusive equipment.
What shapes your character?
| Building block | Announced role | Read next |
|---|---|---|
| Weapons | Provide access to skills | Weapon system |
| Active skills | Abilities shaped by modifiers and specializations | Skill system |
| Passives | A progression layer alongside your abilities | Passive Skill Tree |
| Equipment | Works with skills, weapons and passives to support a build | No item database is published here yet |
This structure is the useful starting point for understanding the classless system. It is not a tested sequence for leveling a character, and it does not imply every imagined combination will be possible.
Where Shadow Form fits
Shadow Form is an announced combat transformation. It is a related character system, not evidence of another fixed class. Read the announced systems overview for the limited public description.
What cannot be ranked yet
The available material does not establish a best class, complete build list, class-specific attributes or a tested damage hierarchy. It also does not settle respec costs or every restriction on changing a character's setup. We will not import those rules from Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem.
For now, compare the roles of active skills and passives before looking for individual builds. Both are announced systems, but neither page claims to be a complete database.
